PEG Clinics: Nurse Specialist and Dietitian for adults and paediatric patients

The Department will periodically contact patients waiting for an outpatient clinic appointment via SMS, with a link to an electronic form.  This is part of routine waitlist auditing to ensure patient details are up to date.  If you receive this SMS, please update your details.

Pre-referral work-up

History

Accept referrals from GP's in relation to existing patients requiring assistance. However start-up referrals only accepted from Paediatricians or PEG nurse.

All referrals should comply to referral standards and include in particular:

  • Growth or weight history
  • Known food allergies and intolerances
  • Please ask the patient or carer to take a copy of their feeding regime when they see the dietitian

Tests

Results of any tests appropriate for the referral type are helpful – such as allergy testing, gut function, bowel issues, renal dysfunction, general biochemistry etc.

Endoscopy Nurse Specialist manages most patients in Southern Tasmania and can give over-the-phone advice. Please contact RHH switch.

THS North West Region

Patients needing specialist advice can be referred.

Urgent / category 1

Intolerance of feeds – vomiting, diarrhoea, bloating, pain

Semi-urgent / category 2

Unintentional weight loss or weight gain

Routine / category 3

Routine monitoring of PEG site and tube management

Red flags are clinical indicators of possible serious underlying conditions requiring further medical intervention. They may or may not indicate an emergency.
